The recent free courses from Pluralsight on teaching kids to program really got me thinking about this subject.
There seems to be a big backlash in development community against the idea that everyone should learn to program.
I’m not sure exactly where it is coming from, but I suspect it has something to do with egos and fear.
Even within the development community, there seems to be a distinction between “real programmers,” and “not real programmers,” based on language or technology choice.I have to admit, I have been guilty of this type of thinking myself, because a very easy way to increase our own value is to decrease the value of others.
But what I have come to find is that not only is the distinction between “real programmers” and “not real programmers” a false dichotomy, but that the distinction between a programmer at all and a layperson, is also not quite as clear, or at least it shouldn’t be.
Not everyone should be a programmer
It’s true. Just like not everyone should be an accountant, or not everyone should be a writer, but I think we can all agree, that everyone should understand basic math and be able to write.
Learning how to program and doing it professionally are two distinct things and they should not be lumped together.
It it pretty hard to imagine a working world where no one except writers could write.
Imagine wanting to send an email to your boss, but you don’t know how to write, so you have to ask the company writer to do it for you.
That is what the world would be like if we insisted that only writers needed to learn how to write.
But perhaps you think I am just being silly, I mean the need to write is so prevalent in everyday situations, but the need to program isn’t.
But I challenge you to consider if whether it is actually true that the need to write is much more prevalent than the need to program, or because everyone knows how to write, the need for writing is just recognized more.
Imagine if everyone you interacted with on a daily basis knew how to write code. Imagine that, just like everyone has a word processor on their computer that they know how to use, there was an IDE that allowed them to write simple scripts.
Think about how that changes the world.

Learn More About Copy-Paste Programming
When programmers are in a hurry to get work done, they sometimes practice ‘copy-paste programming’. In this column, we take a closer look at the consequences of this practice.
A widely known secret among programmers, who are under pressure to be ‘productive’ and churn out hundreds and thousands of lines of code every day, is to make extensive use of two commands: Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V!
So just how much code is duplicated in real world software? We don’t know about closed source software, but for open source software, a study showed that 8.7 per cent of GCC, 19 per cent of X Windows, 22.7 per cent of Linux and 29 per cent of JDK consisted of duplicate code! For any seasoned programmer, these numbers are not at all a surprise. So, instead of talking about why code duplication occurs, let’s discuss the impact or consequences of copy-paste programming. Before that, let us briefly go over the kind of code duplicates (a.k.a. code clones) that abound.
Type 1 clones: An exact copy without modifications, except for white spaces, new lines and comments.
Type 2 clone: Syntactically identical copy, with only variable, type or function names changed.
Type 3 clone: A copy with modifications, such as statements changed, added or removed.
Apart from these three types of clones, we also have a fourth kind: code segments that semantically do the same thing, but are syntactically different. These clones cannot be detected automatically by clone analysers, but need to be found manually. A common mistake while copying code is that programmers copy code, but forget to make the relevant changes necessary for the copied code to be used in the context into which it has been copied. For this reason, Type 1 and Type 2 clones can result in bugs.

Grid Computing (Parallel Distributed Computing)
Distributed systems offer fantastic gains when it comes to solving large-scale problems. By sharing the computation load, you can solve problems too large for a single computer to handle, or solve problems in a fraction of the time it would take with a single computer. The Grid Computing Toolbox has been streamlined for Maple 15, making it easy to create and test parallel distributed programs. New features include a simplified local grid setup, flexible argument passing, and an extended API.
Compatible with Maple 15 Local Grid API
Maple 15 includes the ability to easily set up multi-process computations on a single computer. The Maple Grid Computing Toolbox extends this power to multi-machine or cluster parallelism. The two versions are fully compatible, so that an algorithm can be created and fully tested using the local implementation inside Maple, and then deployed to the full cluster using the toolbox, without changes to the algorithm.
Flexible Argument Passing
The Launch command can now process multi-argument procedures and automatically pass those parameters to each of the nodes in the grid. This avoids the need to work with global data referenced by the 'exports' option.
Getting data to each node can be done in two ways using the Launch command.
• Arguments to the called procedure can be passed as arguments to the Launch command.
• Other data can be specified using the 'imports' option to Launch
Also, once the computation has been started, Send and Receive can be used for passing chunks of data to each individual node.
Computer Networking
The integration of computers in your home or business needs the knowledge of a professional who understands the intricacies of computer networking. Montgomery Computer Repair specializes in the installation of computer networks that provide reliable and easy transfer of files and communication amongst employees or families.
You may wonder why you need to have computers networked? The answer is simple. It allows you to easily share files and communicate with family members in your home or employees at work. Computer networking also allows for just one Internet connection instead of having to run lines to all.
Computers in your home or business can be connected with a network in two different ways.
Cable Connected Networks – This is the standard method of connecting computers in a network. It is ideal for desktop computers that will not be moved around. Network cable is laid throughout your home or business to connect the computers. Cable connected networks provide excellent security, but can create unsightly cable runs.
Wireless Networks – New technology has created reliable and safe networks for homes and businesses. This type of computer network is ideal for laptop users that desire to move around. A central network router is set up that provides a radio signal to connect all computers tied to the system. Safety used to be a concern with wireless networks, but new advances have provided a more secure connection blocking would-be thieves from getting valuable information.
Point to Point, Point to Multiple Point and Frame Relay - Please call Montgomery Computer Repair to discuss these options.
Whichever computer network best fits your needs is easily and professionally installed in your home or business by Montgomery Computer Repair.
Computer Technology
Technology is a comprehensive concept dealing with our understanding and rehearse of tools and crafts to sit in and control our atmosphere. Today it's difficult to keep all the new technology available to us. Just like a "baby boomer" I have found myself behind the occasions. The children, and often my grandchildren, find out more than I really do about computer and internet technology. I have made a decision to research the world that's available to us through the web and our personal computers. It's my desire to share a few things i find.
Recent technological developments, like the printing press, telephone, and internet let's interact around the global scale. A good way to do that's through Sites, also called "blogs". Nearly all my pals have no clue abouts blogs and snack until recently. Now I have created my own, personal blog and am posting regularly in it. I am also reading through through other blogs and experiencing a completely new avenue of understanding and companionship. Imagine my surprise to discover that although blogging be educational and entertaining, but technology-not only to create earnings.
My husband works offshore and watches what everyone else wants to watch on tv. Lucrative watches what he wants on his computer. I came across that for individuals who have the internet in your house, in the motel room, in addition to internet satellite service inside your RV get ready to enjoy unlimited programming anywhere. We travel regularly and possess found limited TV programming in motel rooms. We does not need to miss our regular program any longer. For individuals who have the internet in your house, in the motel room, in addition to internet satellite service inside your RV get ready to enjoy unlimited programming anywhere.
You will find almost anything on the internet. You'll be able to shop within the comfort of your property and possess your products shipped for you personally door. My 75 years of age mother was remodeling just a little house which we wanted handicapped add-ons. No problem, I came across her many items to choose from. My children believe it is easier and less hectic to Christmas buy online.

ASUS LAUNCHES THE MX 229Q
The Asus MX229Q features an AH-IPS panel with a resolution of 2560 x 1080 and an ultra-wide aspect ratio of 21:9. AH-IPS means Advanced High Performance IPS, what it does is improve color accuracy, increase resolution and PPI, with grater light transmission but for a lower power consumption.
The MX229Q, a 29″ monitor was first seen at this year’s Computex, together with Asus’ first ever 4k monitor. The MX229Q also provides a brightness of 300 cd/m2, 178 degrees by 178 degrees viewing angles, a dynamic contrast ration of 80,000,000:1 and should offer comparable performance to the LG EA93 since it also has a LG manufactured panel. It also has a 3W on-board stereo speakers, a tilt range of +20 degrees to -5 degrees, a DisplayPort, dual-link DVI, HDMI, and 3.5 mm audio inputs.
The Asus MX229Q will be on sale with a retail price of $614, we still have no news if this would be available locally.
Haier transparent LED display is brilliantly barmy
Haier may not be the first name to spring to mind when it comes to cutting-edge electronics, but the company has been a major force in the kitchen and appliance market for years. Now, Haier's decided to throw research and development cash at the gadget market, with some fascinating results. When we got the call to check out its transparent LCD monitor at the IFA tech show, our little legs couldn't get there fast enough, and there were plenty of other geek treats on show too.
Shown at IFA in PC monitor guise, the 22-inch LCD panel is completely transparent. Even when there's an image floating across the screen, it's possible to see right through the display. A traditional backlight is lacking, so we suspect the set uses LEDs hidden in the metal frame.
When quizzed about possible applications, Haier told us that adopting transparent monitors could lead to a brighter, less cluttered office environment. They'd be no long shadows across desks, you see.
While it's unlikely that general PC users would buy into the concept, it's not a stretch to imagine the technology popping up in the reception areas of businesses. The technology could also be used to breathe futuristic life into the second-screen TV market.
The display certainly looks gorgeous. The panel has a resolution of 1,680x1,050 pixels. We found small text fonts to be legible as long as the screen was positioned against a predominantly white backdrop. Because of the screen's translucent nature, legibility suffers when the background setting becomes dark and cluttered.
While detail reproduction is exceedingly good, we did detect some slight motion judder with moving video. The viewing angle also plays a part when it comes to colour fidelity. Viewed square on, colours become stronger and more defined, although hues could never be described as vivid.
The display itself is completely cool to the touch, indicating that it's probably quite energy-efficient.
Samsung Rolls Out the 70 Series Touch of Color LCD Monitors
Samsung Electronics America announced on Thursday the introduction of its new 70 Series monitors, including the new P2070, P2370 and P2370HD, designed to deliver an alternative to users who are looking to take advantage of the visual quality delivered by a slim LCD. According to Samsung, the new line comes with screen depths of 30mm, for the P2070 and P2370, while the last of the three comes with a screen depth of 65.6mm all three boast the company's Touch of Color (ToC) design and are the latest release of Samsung's high-performance display lineup
The 70 Series is a great monitor for someone looking [for] a full range of color, sharpness and response. It also has an added benefit for those concerned about the environment. We were sensitive to the impact computers monitors have on the environment and have developed a manufacturing process for the 70 Series that would minimize this,” said Tony Yu, display product manager of Samsung Electronics America’s Information Technology Division.
Among some of the features that have been enabled on the new 70-series LCD monitors from Samsung we should mention the dynamic contrast ration of 50,000:1 and a GTG response time of 2ms (except for the P2370HD). The 70-series have also been featured with Samsung's crystal-like bezel frame with ToC design, and the integrated On Screen Display (OSD) buttons, enabling the end-user to easily interact with the controls of the monitor.
All but the P2070 model support full HD 1080p (1920x1080) resolution, while the P2070 can deliver a maximum of 1600x900. In addition, the thicker P2370HD model has been designed to integrate a 1080p digital HDTV tuner and is featured with a GTG response time of 5ms and HDMI input.
Despite no word on pricing, the consumer electronics company announced that the new 70-series Touch of Color LCDs would be available through Samsung's resellers and distribution channels.
